The R/V Kilo Moana conducted opportunistic Quality Assurance Testing between July 2025 and January 2026 for its EM122 and EM710 multibeam systems, including configuration review, hardware health checks, calibrations, RX noise testing, and swath coverage assessments. Calibration results indicated stable system geometry and acceptable performance, with improved EM122 swath coverage compared to 2023, though RX noise increases were observed for the EM122 at higher shaft speeds while the EM710 maintained low noise levels. Given the aging multibeam systems and decreasing manufacturer support from Kongsberg Maritime, the Multibeam Advisory Committee recommended beginning planning for future system replacement or upgrades.
